The SME Climate Hub uses safeguards within the SME Reporting Tool to support the quality and completeness of reports submitted by SMEs.
When completing the SME Reporting Tool, mandatory fields ensure that SMEs provide the information required to generate a report containing key information. See the mandatory reporting requirements.
If an SME chooses to upload its own PDF report instead of completing the report directly in the SME Reporting Tool, the SME must confirm that the PDF includes the following information:
- General company information: reporting period, revenue, and number of employees
- Company's commitment and targets: net zero and near-term target years, base year, and baseline emissions
- Own emissions: Scope 1 and location-based Scope 2 emissions, calculation method, and energy consumption
- Plan and actions to reduce emissions
- Progress and challenges in reducing emissions
The SME must confirm that all of the above information is included in the PDF before it can be uploaded as a report.
SMEs are responsible for the accuracy and quality of the data they submit, and submitted reports are displayed publicly on the Our SMEs page. The SME Climate Hub does not audit or independently verify the content of submitted reports. However, the SME Climate Hub may select a sample of reports for a high-level review as part of its internal quality-control processes. These reviews do not constitute an external audit, verification, or assurance of the reported data.
