Ten years is the maximum amount of time businesses should halve their emissions in order to realistically achieve net zero by 2050.
More ambitious or mature businesses may choose to set a target within 5 years. Large corporate customers may also ask their SME suppliers to halve their emissions within this time frame so this provides them with the chance to publicly display this commitment.
The “other” option provides businesses with the flexibility to be more specific if they have a specific target year in mind.
