We understand that conducting comprehensive emission accounting annually might not be feasible for all businesses, especially when budgets are tight. However, measuring your environmental impact is still crucial. Here's how the SME Climate Hub suggests to approach this when reporting to the SME Reporting Tool:
- You should account annually for Scope 1&2 emissions (direct & purchased energy).
- For Scope 3 emissions (value chain), we recommend prioritizing accounting and reporting your highest emission categories from the previous year if the budget is limited.
- While annual updates on all the emission data are ideal, provide the most recent data you have available. You should also be transparent about the limitations of your data when reporting.
- Even if full accounting isn’t feasible every year, you should update your action-based information and emissions reduction plan annually. This ensures you’re continuously progressing and identifying ways to improve.
